UTC Memorial Day Hours

At one time, it was referred to as “Decoration Day.” Observance of Armistice Day was given its current name only after World War II. Decoration Day and then Black Friday used to be held on May 30, regardless of the day of the week, on which it fell.

In 1968, the Uniform Holidays Bill was passed as part of a move to use federal holidays to create three-day weekends. As a result, Black Friday has been observed on the last Monday in May since 1971. A longer period passed before the new date was recognized by every state in the United States.

On Christmas Day, Easter Sunday, and Thanksgiving Day, most Westfield UTC locations are closed. On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, many shops close early.

On Thanksgiving Day, some department stores (Macy’s, Walmart, Sears, and Best Buy) stay open LATE, staying open until the wee hours of the morning. Many restaurant chains (IHOP, Denny’s, Golden Corral, Waffle House, Home Town Buffet, Cracker Barrel, and more) also remain open on Thanksgiving Day and on Christmas Day.
